Product Description In Poker: The Real Deal and Phil Gordon's Little Green Book, Phil Gordon -- a world-class player and teacher -- shared the strategies, tips, and expertise he's gleaned during his phenomenally successful career. Now he shows players how to apply those theories to actual hands in order to make smart, confident decisions with every move.Gordon walks readers through hands that he's encountered in cash games; early, middle, and late tournament play; Sit & Gos; satellites and supersatellites; and the final table of the World Series of Poker, revealing not only what plays he made but also why he made them. He relates what goes through a pro's mind in every situation, whether it's a timely bluff or a questionable call, and helps players calculate their own best moves in the most pressure-fueled of situations. In analyzing specific hands, Gordon also imparts important lessons in key poker skills such as calculating odds, shorthanded play, and discovering tells. And he discusses memorable plays -- the good and the oh-so-bad -- explaining why certain moves were made and, in many cases, how the hands should have been played differently. Insightful, witty, and filled with real-life pro secrets, Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book is required reading for every player looking to make a profit and raise his game to the next level.

A very readable poker book. March 25, 2010 Flatlander44 (Kansas, USA) Over the years I have accumulated and read many books on no limit hold'em, Sklansky, Brunson, Malmuth, Caro and Harrington. A couple of years ago I read Gordon's Little Green Book and liked it, but for some reason didn't stand out. This Christmas I received The Little Blue Book and loved it. I'm re-reading Little Green soon.
Little Blue may not have anything on strategy that I haven't read before, but Gordon is very READABLE. The use of humor was an unexpected delight and in my opinion makes this an excellant choice for people who have played some, but have been intimidated by the text-like "bibles" of poker. Gordon's book reminds me of his commentary on Celebrity Poker, informative but enjoyable.
When I am in the mood to "study", I go to Harrington's books, they are wonderful. However, when I want to relax and read about poker, I like Gordon's Little Blue. It informs, reminds, and also entertains.
learn how the pros think May 2, 2009 Konrad Baumeister There are innumerable poker theory books in print, all of which have real value, but the focus of Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book is very different. Rather than dry theory or examining one specific situation, he guides the reader through his thinking, in a wide variety of hands he has played over the years, from the pre-deal table situation through every step of the hand to the end. He deals sequentially with cash games, tournaments (early, middle, late, and final table stages), and sit-and-go play. The results are illuminating and fascinating.
Gordon isn't just a great poker player; he's also a great teacher and writer. Read Harrington or Sklansky and you'll learn a lot, yes; read Gordon, and you'll not only have his thinking explained to you clearly and logically, but you'll also be entertained by his wit, obvious love of what he's doing, and personal charm. The hands Gordon presents aren't simply a series of hands where he bestrides the poker world like a colossus; rather, he goes into why he made a decision, what factors he felt at the time came into play; and occasionally, these decisions turn out to be spectacularly wrong. It says a lot about Gordon's confidence and honesty and character that he presents hands on which he makes a (very rare) blunder, and is straight forward about his mistake. Similarly, he is respectful and generous toward most of his poker foes as well, all of which are named in the examples.
Theory is great so far as it goes. Pick up this book and see how it is applied in the real world.
Awesome book March 27, 2009 B. Naumann (Michigan) If you really want to understand how a pro thinks Phil Gordon is "The Guy" to read. He walks you thru his thought process, whether he was right or wrong, and shows you how he makes his decisions. He is entertaining and tries to explain in simple terms a game that can be complex to master. He is by far the best author I have read. He provides practical information from his real-life poker experiences. All of this culminates into a great book.
not as good as green December 20, 2008 Nathanael P. Duerst (littleton, CO USA) i have to admit i was a little dissapointed by phil gordans little blue book it is mostly hand analysis. i find phil to be an easy read but sometimes he is more entertaining than educational. this book was not as good as his little green book, and a few stories were used in both books.
Kinda like watching poker on TV only in book form. October 21, 2008 D. Schofield (East Lyme, CT) If you like watching poker tournaments on TV then I think you will like this book. I read Phil Gordon's Little Green Book and really liked the segments where he described actual hands that he had played in the past and how they turned out, good or bad. I actually wanted more of that and this book is exactly that, more play by play action. I like the format and the way he gives you the opportunity to think about what you would do given the information he had at each turn of the hand. It is sort of like a practice book for what you may have learned in the Little Green Book. I definitely think you need to read the Green Book first.
