Product Description There are an awful lot of people playing limit holdem. Some of them play badly and some play okay. A small number play a good game and an even smaller number play a very good game. Professional player and coach Barry Tanenbaum plays a very good game indeed. Barry Tanenbaum has been a successful limit holdem player for many years. However, more importantly, he has coached numerous weaker players and understands what the deficiencies in their game are. He knows what kind of mistakes they make and he knows what they need to do to improve. In this book Barry analyses what it takes to be a great limit holdem player. In the pre-flop section he considers hand selection, playing from the blinds and isolation play. In the post-flop discussions he places great emphasis on planning the play, considering when to raise, when to check-raise, when to bet out and when to delay raising. Receiving coaching at poker can be very expensive. By buying this book your will obtain the wisdom of one of the best poker coaches for a fraction of the price. If you play limit holdem you cant afford not to buy this book.

Solid information July 26, 2010 Joseph F. Sawyer (Sewickley, PA) I bought this book to improve my limit hold 'em play. I got exactly what I wanted. The book is a powerhouse of information on limit hold 'em. It takes you step by step through just about every conceivable situation in limit hold 'em. I had played no limit tournaments and cash games for the past 7 years but very little limit hold 'em. What I especially liked about this book was the comprehensive discussion about play in position: why some hands cannot be played profitably in early position. The author's emphasis on gaining small advantages is crucial to overall profitable play. I liked it, and I've recommended it to my friends.
Best Advice I Could Have May 24, 2010 K. DeBose (Louisville, KY) When I bought this book way back when I heard a lot of critics talk about it. I wanted to see for myself and after I read it, some stuff just clicked for me. I completely agree about the FUD. Creating this at the table is the best thing any poker player can do. I don't just mean be super aggressive running over the table. A person must know when to be aggressive and when to back off. Leaving the "audience" wondering about what you will do next. Poker is a game of chess. You have to position yourself in the right place to take the other player down.
Terrific book for winning players March 23, 2009 Steve Cobb (Seattle area) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is appropriate for experienced limit holdem players who are already tight/aggresive, and therefore winning. It may well be the best book in that specific category. I am seeing things at the table that I never thought to look for previously.
The text is well written, flowing naturally as if the author is speaking to you. I especially like his real-life examples, concise narratives of the author's thoughts during a hand, what was considered, and why a particular action was chosen. And, he doesn't win the hand in some of them (so refreshing) reinforcing the idea that it's the decisions that are important not the results.
There are a few areas in the second section that are a bit dry, but not many. Overall, it's a terrific book well worth your time. Recommended.
Good Read January 28, 2008 Mr. Michael Kagan (Melbourne, Australia) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I liked this book, it is:
Easy and enjoyable to read.
Covers a lot of topics, from preflop starting hands, to river play.
Concepts and ideas explained clearly and logically.
It contains a discussion about FUD which stands for Fear Uncertainty Doubt. Barry believes you need to mix up your play so your opponents
1. Fear you
2. Are uncertain what you have
3. Doubt themselves and you
After reading this book you will feel like You've been given an expensive 10 hour Lecture on Limit holdem by an expert.
Just about everything on limit holdem is covered, but there is only 1 or 2 examples on each topic, thus only 4 stars.
Must Read January 12, 2008 R. Paterson (Coral Gables) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I was taking a Limit Hold'em mentoring class just over 4 months ago and I decided to pick up Barry's book as an accompaniment to the class. I'm an avid reader of his columns in Cardplayer and it came as no surprise that this book is well written with thoughtful, concise and easily understood explanations of some of the more advanced concepts and techniques in Limit Hold'em.
Recently there seem to have been a deluge of poker books hitting the market by new writers that just seem to regurgitate lessons written previously by the more notable poker authors. You may only find one or two tidbits of information contained within those books that may be truly useful, if you're lucky. Virtually every page of Barry's book had information you could readily use and adapt into your game.
If you are a beginning to intermediate player this would be a great addition to your poker library. I would rate it right up there with "Small Stakes Hold'em", and "Hold'em poker for advanced players.)
